General Liability
Coverage for designated claims of bodily injury or property damage caused by the negligence of insureds in connection with the policyholder's foreign religious operations.

Example: Volunteers on a short-term mission trip are working on the construction of a church building in a small Mexican town. During the course of construction, rafters collapse outward into a group of local bystanders. Three adult townspeople are seriously injured, and a child is killed. A lawsuit is filed against the sponsoring organization in the Mexican province where the accident occurred. This claim would be covered under the general liability coverage (up to the coverage limit).


Food Preparation Liability
Covers designated claims of Bodily Injury caused by the negligence of covered persons in the preparation or distribution of food as part of the policyholder's foreign religious operations.

Example: A mission organization opens a soup kitchen in the Philippines. Members of the mission organization prepare the food. The director of the kitchen is unaware that the organization's refrigerator (in which part of a meal has been stored) is not working properly. The meal is served and dozens of area residents are hospitalized with severe food poisoning that is traced to food served at the kitchen. Some of the victims file suit in the Philippines alleging negligence against the mission agency and the director of the kitchen. This claim would be covered under the Food Preparation Additional Coverage (up to the coverage limit).


Criminal Allegation Defense Reimbursement
Provides reimbursement of designated legal expenses relating to the defense of covered persons accused of committing criminal or religious offenses under the laws or customs of the nation in which foreign religious operations are being undertaken. Note: No payment of court awards, judgments or fines is provided.

Example: A church tour group is crossing the border from Israel into Egypt. At the border, guards search their van and find anti-Muslim literature among one of the participant's belongings. The entire group is detained in a holding area, and is threatened with imprisonment for violating Egyptian law. They are put in contact with an Egyptian attorney to represent their interests, and are charged for the representation. These legal costs are covered under the Criminal Allegation Defense Reimbursement Additional Coverage, subject to a $5,000 (U.S.) inquiry limit, and a $100 (U.S.) per hour attorney reimbursement limit.


Volunteer Participant Medical Coverage
Provides medical payment benefits for volunteer participants who are injured or who experience a serious illness while participating in the policyholder's foreign religious operations.

Example: A small church sends several members to assist with relief efforts following a devastating flood and mudslides in Central America. One of the members contracts typhoid fever and is hospitalized for ten days in Nicaragua. The volunteer's health insurer denies coverage for the $4500 hospital bill because it was not incurred within the United States This expense will be covered under Volunteer Participant Medical Coverage.
